CCA Quality Assurance
Committed to a Higher Standard
CCA works diligently to ensure that our facilities meet the highest standards of quality. We are not only held accountable to policies that govern our institutions and meet national accreditation standards, we are also subject to the same types of requirements that govern most facilities in the public sector. In fact, CCA guidelines are established and approved by the contracting governmental agencies, and often include additional requirements and a monitoring process that exceeds the customers' own operational prerequisites.
CCA is committed to an approach that ensures the highest standards for its private sector corrections. That's why we have placed quality assurance at the forefront of correctional management. At CCA, quality assurance is a continual process that enables us to achieve not just what our customers depend upon, but what we also expect from ourselves - commitment to a higher standard.
Accreditation
CCA facilities accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA) meet nearly 500 professional standards in all areas of operations, including security, food service, fire/safety, sanitation, maintenance, medical, education, recreation, visitation, mail and administration. Daily auditing of facility departments provides continuous problem identification and resolution, and is an integral function of facility life. (Audits examining medical operations are conducted by JCAHO, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations; and NCCHC, National Commission on Correctional Health Care.) Formal assessment of the accreditation process is monitored by CCA's Quality Assurance department.
Each facility is visited at least once per year by a corporate oversight audit team to review compliance with documentation and operational practices. Accreditation audits by ACA take place every three years, but status reports are filed annually. Eighty-eight percent of CCA's operating facilities have received this recognition thus far. It is our goal for the majority of our remaining facilities, most of which are the newest in the CCA system, to go through the intensive ACA accreditation process. No other private firm - and few public agencies - can equal this record.
