Safety and Security with CCA
Experience and Philosophy Meet Technology
Safety and security is the foundation of successful corrections management with CCA.
CCA’s security and safety is defined by state-of-the-art hardware and guided by a philosophy that upholds correctional best practices, contractual mandates, national accreditation standards set by the American Correctional Association (ACA), and our own proven expertise. CCA’s commitment to safety and security is developed through organizational measures, intensive training and technology.
On the frontline level, being a member of the security team at CCA means more than performing requisite checks on a shift; it means being an ambassador of safety and security for inmates, the surrounding community and fellow staff. CCA correctional officers are responsible for securing housing units, controlling inmate movements, performing perimeter checks, supervising inmates, reporting and documenting incidents, and resolving conflicts. To maintain safety and security, they receive comprehensive and ongoing training.
Innovative Hardware
CCA provides the highest-quality, most cutting-edge safety and security equipment in the industry. Our facilities are outfitted with state-of-the-art technology incorporated into our prototypical design, which seamlessly blend both architecture and security functions.
The latest in security hardware at CCA facilities includes:
Computerized Central Control
Computerized central control enables a single switchboard connected facility-wide and operated by expertly trained staff to monitor and oversee all facility movements.
Digital Radio Systems
-
Digital radio systems provide reliable communications and strong reception in remote areas, locations with weak signals, and within steel- or concrete-reinforced buildings.
Direct Supervision
-
With direct supervision, correctional officers are posted within inmate housing units rather than in a remote location or intermittently patrolling an area. This promotes familiarity with inmate personalities and behavior, which fosters communication and advances security.
Front-End Metal Detectors
-
Our international airport quality metal detectors located at entry posts and in inmate living areas enable trained security staff to scan for and detect unauthorized contraband.
Inmate Management System 2 (IMS2)
-
IMS2 reduces paperwork by providing electronic inmate records on desktop and laptop computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and document and barcode scanners.
Pelco Digital Camera Systems
-
These specially-reinforced camera systems archive video records for up to 120 days, permitting a thorough review of activities.
Perimeter Stun Fence
-
Stun fences serve as psychological and physical deterrents to negative inmate conduct and make boundary-crossing activities inherently unattractive.
Unit Management
-
Unit management divides a facility into smaller, more easily managed housing units and decentralizes authority to the frontline level, allowing staff to de-escalate and solve problems. Using multidisciplinary teams, the staff develops a thorough knowledge of inmates and the housing unit, which guides decisions about custody and care. Frontline officers are also better prepared to prevent inmate incidents and suppress gang activity.
X-Ray Machines
-
X-ray machines provide increased oversight for individuals and items entering and exiting CCA facilities, enhancing the monitoring of visitors, contractors and staff.
