Warden: Shelton Richardson
Warden Shelton Richardson was named warden in October 2007. He comes to Leavenworth Detention Center from the Correctional Treatment Facility at Washington, D.C. He worked there two years, most recently as assistant warden, and initially as assistant chief of security. He also worked at the Houston Processing Center as a detention officer. He joined Corrections Corporation of America in August 2004 after rising through the ranks of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
His last position before retiring from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice was as senior warden of the Richard P. Leblanc Pre-Release Substance Abuse Facility at Beaumont, Texas. There he supervised 255 employees and 1,100 offenders.
Warden Richardson has served as warden at numerous other Texas facilities.

Community Activities: Leavenworth Detention Center employees participate in the following activities: American Red Cross Blood Drives; Adopt-a-Highway Program through the Kansas Department of Transportation; work with Council on Aging's Meals on Wheels program to provide holiday stockings to the elderly; adopt families for the holidays through Catholic Community Services
Programs Offered: As a detention center, inmate programs are made possible by volunteers from the community. We also employ instructors to teach Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Education Development (GED) programs, English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, and several General Business classes for the inmates in our care.
