The Mineral Wells Pre-Parole Transfer Facility is located in the Wolters Industrial Park in Mineral Wells, Texas, which was once the Fort Wolters Helicopter Base that closed in the late seventies. Mineral Wells has a population of approximately 16,000 residents and is located 45 miles west of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The community is most often associated with the Baker and Crazy Water hotels, which became known for the "Crazy Water" in the early years. Lake Mineral Wells State Park and Trailway is located near the facility and is considered to be one of the state's premiere sites for rock climbing and rappelling. The 20-mile trailway links Mineral Wells with the neighboring town of Weatherford. This trailway was completed with the assistance of inmates from the Mineral Wells PPTF who volunteered for community service work. Some of the local industry includes oil well services/equipment, communication equipment, brick manufacturers, plastic/fiberglass pip, and mobile home manufacturing.
