Corrections Corporation of America Certified as Mature Worker Friendly Employer
Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) in Arizona has partnered with the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging and the Arizona Department of Commerce to more effectively recruit and hire mature workers from the surrounding communities.
“Mature workers tend to earn the respect of the younger correctional officers and inmates,” Daren Swenson, CCA’s Managing Director, said. “They provide mentoring opportunities and have a level of expertise associated with the amount of time they have been in the workforce. CCA is proud to participate in this program, and we are hopeful that it will lead to a long-lasting partnership between our facilities and the mature members of our communities.”
In 2008, representatives from CCA’s Eloy facilities, including Saguaro Correctional Center Eloy Detention Center, Red Rock Correctional Center and La Palma Correctional Center, along with members of CCA’s two Florence facilities, the Florence Correctional Center and the Central Arizona Detention Center, attended the training required for the Mature Worker Friendly Employer certification. This was the first year that the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging made the certification available, and it can only be awarded after several hours of training and the signing a formal pledge.
With more than 2,300 employees in Pinal County and a total of more than 17,000 nationwide, CCA is committed to creating a work environment that values the experience and skills that mature workers possess. CCA recognizes the unique qualifications of workers 50 years and older, and is dedicated to providing substantive employment, ongoing professional development as well as competitive pay and benefits.
“At CCA, we have always strived to create a diverse workforce,” Swenson said. “We are constantly looking for ways to better serve our communities and are happy to have found a way to utilize the talents and abilities mature workers.”
