CCA Names Daren Swenson Managing Director of New Arizona Division
(Nashville, TN) – Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), the largest corrections management services provider in the United States and the largest private employer in Pinal County, Arizona, has formally created its new Division VII, in response to the company’s continued growth and investment in Arizona. CCA’s Division VII will be dedicated to the operations, staffing and development of the company’s existing five correctional centers in the state as well as the La Palma Correctional Center, currently under construction in Eloy, Ariz. and scheduled to begin a phased opening in July 2008.
Division VII will be led by newly appointed Managing Director Daren Swenson, formerly warden of Saguaro Correctional Facility in Eloy, Ariz. Swenson, who joined CCA in 1992, will provide oversight of all Arizona facilities, including the ramp-up and activation of new correctional centers in the state. Swenson began his career with CCA as a sergeant at the company’s Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton, Minn., and has since served in a variety of supervisory positions, including Assistant Warden, Chief of Security and Unit Manager. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in psychology and sociology from North Dakota State University.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of the exciting changes that are taking place both in Arizona and with CCA in general,” says Swenson. “One of the best things about this opportunity is that I will be able to continue to work closely with the wardens of our six Pinal county facilities..”
In Arizona, CCA currently operates Eloy Detention Facility, Red Rock Correctional Center, Florence Correctional Center, Saguaro Correctional Center and Central Arizona Detention Center. Partnering with the state for 15 years, CCA has been ranked as a “Top 100” Arizona employer for its large employee base. With five facilities currently operational and a sixth under construction, CCA will employ an estimated 2,300 Arizonans with a payroll exceeding $100 million.
“Creating a new division dedicated to managing ongoing daily and long-term operations, development and staffing represents the significant strides our employees – and the company – have been making in the State of Arizona for more than a decade,” said Brian Collins, Vice-President of Operations. “CCA is committed to operating safe and secure facilities in Arizona, with expert-level attention to detail and an unyielding emphasis on responsibly developing state-of-the-art correctional centers that help provide careers with untold growth potential in a range of professional specialties.”
