physician

Being a physician at CCA is just what the doctor ordered.

Imagine being able to practice medicine the way you originally hoped. Being able to devote all your time and attention to your patients rather than bureaucracy, paperwork and insurance reimbursements. Being able to offer the type of treatment you think best without getting approval from an insurance company. Being involved with the entire continuum of a patient’s care instead of just one small aspect of it.

This is exactly what you’ll get as a CCA physician. In essence, it’s the best of both worlds. Access to the latest treatment options and a skilled team, but without all the hassles and complications of insurance companies, bloated bureaucracies, and financial pressures. And you’ll be working for a nationally-respected, publicly-traded organization that values its correctional healthcare professionals. So you will feel a sense of pride working for such a dynamic, leading company.

Industry Leader

As the private corrections industry leader, CCA is seeking progressive medical doctors to join our strong national correctional medicine team. Working with us, you’ll have the opportunity to improve community health providing disease control, awareness, education and prevention through your work with our offenders before they return to the community.

Greater Autonomy, Less Stress

As a CCA physician, you’ll experience a great deal of autonomy and will be encouraged to exercise initiative and independent judgment regarding inmate care. Unlike the private sector, we provide malpractice insurance for fulltime health care staff as well as freedom from common private practice inconveniences like collections, insurance, and other administrative costs and concerns. You’ll also have direct access to all necessary tests, including lab work, radiology and specialty care. Typical duties include diagnosis and treatment of inmate patients, sick call, chronic infectious disease, chronic disease clinics, minor surgeries, emergency care, preventive healthcare, and inmate education regarding health care issues. Many of our physicians appreciate the fact that they work together with midlevel providers, nurses, dentists, and mental health providers in true interdisciplinary care teams.

Orientation and Training

New to correctional health care? Don’t worry, our physicians find that their skills transfer well to the correctional facility environment which offers the opportunity to use many skills not used in the hospital or community setting. CCA provides complete and specific training and orientation programs so that you’ll enter this specialty with confidence.

Corrections is a career path less traveled, but one that, in fact, offers professional growth opportunities equal to, and in many cases above and beyond traditional community care settings. So, if you’re seeking a truly rewarding career in which you make a difference in the health standards of our country while providing high-quality health care to those in need, CCA’s correctional medicine team is the place for you.
